new paintings by Ro Bradshaw
These abstract colour field works are inspired by the colours associated with the skies and landscapes of the Otago region. The landscape and weather also contribute to the material process in making these works. Sheets of waste paper are laid on a discarded pipe situated in a field behind myhome and left for several days. These papers with their rusted patterns are then adhered to a canvas and over painted with acrylic paint. Other waste paint, builder’s material and crushed schist may be added for textural effect. The kerearea symbolises both an observer and a species whose existence is threatened by the changing landscape below it.
