ERIC SCHUSSER

PHOTOGRAPHY

Friend of the mountains and the snow.

Eric Schusser is a contemporary photographic artist based in Alexandra, New Zealand. He has been creating images most of his life and exhibiting since 1999.

Photography has fascinated Eric since he was a boy watching his father printing in his darkroom. He found these moments magical.

Eric has a diverse portfolio that covers fine art, landscape, abstract and social documentary work - he is fascinated by the interplay of text and photo publishing solo and collaborative photo books. With a particular strength in the black & white medium, he is drawn to the simplicity and complexity of light, form, line and shadow.

Milestones on his journey include multiple solo exhibitions around New Zealand, group exhibitions in New Zealand and internationally, numerous regional and national awards, an Advanced Diploma in Photography, and Fellow of the Photographic Society of NZ.

His work is in the National Library photographic collection, Central Stories Museum, and the Alexander Turnbull Library as well private collections in New Zealand and internationally.

Key photographic influences include Wayne Barrar, Laurence Aberhart, Edward Weston, Bill Brandt, and the Dusseldorf School of Photography. The abstract work of painter Sean Scully also resonates strongly.
